The Subconscious Mind: Friend or Foe?

We all have one. A subconscious mind that is. Does your subconscious mind seem to be more of a friend or a foe? Most people would say their subconscious mind seems to be pitted against them. Guess what? This just isn’t true at all.

Our subconscious mind is the most amazing ally you’ll ever have. You may not be aware of its incredible power or how it works to support you every moment of your life. Have you heard your subconscious mind is at least 1 million times more powerful at processing information than your conscious mind? Are you aware that your conscious mind is only 5% of your overall consciousness at any given moment yet your subconscious mind is 95% of your overall consciousness? Isn’t that an astounding difference? The subconscious mind is a huge powerhouse! Are you using it to assist you or to hinder you?

Are you aware your subconscious mind is responsible for managing your digestion, elimination, heart rate, breathing, blood pressure and monitoring signals being sent from the brain to the muscles, ligaments and tendons of your body? It is communicating with every one of the trillions of cells in your body!

Are you aware your subconscious is always alert, always paying attention, even when you are asleep or “unconscious”? Can you imagine any guard standing duty to be more interested in your well being than your very own subconscious mind?

Have you heard of people who have been anesthetized for a surgery and the surgeon made an insulting remark about the patient undergoing the procedure? There are many stories such as this where the patient upon waking after the surgery confronted the doctor about his noxious and rude comments regarding the patient. How can this be? Wasn’t the patient “unconscious” during the procedure? Ahh… the conscious mind is “unconscious” but the subconscious mind is very alert and aware about everything that is taking place to the finest detail every moment of our life!

Many people use the term “unconscious” and subconscious as interchangeable words. But they are very different terms and they mean very different things. When we are knocked “unconscious” it is the conscious mind that has the experience of being out of commission or unaware. Even in this scenario the subconscious mind is noticing everything that is taking place and manages to keep all the autonomic nervous system functions going.

The subconscious mind is your store house of everything that has ever happened in your life. It is your history book. It records information, details and makes associations so the conscious mind can access these at a later time.

Your subconscious also stores your perceptions, beliefs, patterns, habits, and emotions. Ever wonder how an actress or actor can bring tears to the surface night after night of the same stage performance? S/He taps into the subconscious to access a real memory that made her/him really cry. They are using their subconscious to assist with a conscious desire during the play.

The subconscious is also very adaptable and willing to change. It doesn’t need cajoling or encouragement to make a change. It just needs the right method to create a desired change, and the right information. When we know how to effectively and efficiently work with the subconscious we can make changes quickly and easily. It only takes a few moments for the changes to occur and they are very long lasting.

In some ways the subconscious is very much like a computer hard drive. If you save a file, let’s say a letter as a Word document, but you misspell the city where the letter is going to be mailed. You save the letter and come back to it at a later time, maybe even years later. You catch the error and correct it. You save and close the file again. Will the corrections still be there later when you open the same file again? Of course. This is very much like how our subconscious mind operates too.

Our subconscious mind is ready willing and able to help us out at any time. We need to know how to engage it and work with it properly. Once we do we can make all kinds of changes that support our life. We can learn how to better attract and manage money, attract and manage relationships, work with our physical system to improve health, change addictive patterns, sleep better, work more efficiently, etc. In short, everything you do in life you are engaging your subconscious mind.
